The Importance of Family Support When You Are Dieting

Anyone who has ever dieted knows the importance of family support. It is especially important to garner the support of the members living in your immediate household. It can make a huge difference in your progress and how you feel about yourself.

Let’s face it; it’s not easy to stick to a diet plan when everyone around you is eating Twinkies and chocolate ice cream, every time you turn around. The least they could do is hide the contraband in their room and eat it while you are sleeping, right?

There have actually been studies that prove that many women who are dieting feel insulted and want to give up on dieting because their husbands won’t eat the same food that is part of their diet plan.

I’m sure that there are those women who choose to cook separate meals, for their hubby. But, in this day and age I really believe that most of us who are trying to lose weight simply don’t have time to prepare two different meals… even if we wanted to.

Similar studies have indicated that some of this opposition stems from the fact that some of these husbands really don’t want their partner to lose weight. Why? They are afraid that as these women get smaller, their confidence level will rise. Unfortunately, many men are threatened by this.

Depending on the diet plan you choose to follow, with a little bit of planning, it is possible to create meals that even a hubby will love. Just remember, creativity is your friend!

As you probably know there are tons of diet-related recipe sites, which feature more yummy sounding recipes than you can possibly cook up, in a lifetime. The keyword here is ‘tweak’.

I have adapted many a recipe so that friends and family members have been able to sit down and enjoy a meal with me, WITHOUT the stress of coming up with two different menus. Most have actually complimented me, afterwards.

Honestly, I experiment with a lot of veggie recipes. There are SO many ways to jazz them up and serve them. Even with the rising cost of gas, they are still pretty inexpensive and most people love them.

I only cook one meal, either eat it or leave it. Tonight I made Talapia, so my hubz ordered a pizza. Which is fine with me!!

Excellent post! The support of family and friends is crucial. All to often it is those closest to us that inadvertently sabotage our efforts to stay healthy.

    Stay strong.

    Peace.

    Yes losing weight is difficult!

And it helps if your family supports you, no question about that.

But there are ways to overcome even if they eat twinkies in your face. Basically what you do is you have free day (once a week ) and during the week if someone
tempts you with a twinkie you write it down on a list and on your free day you have whatever you want from your list.

This really works and it reclaims your power to control your eating and not allow yourself to give it up to others.

Try it and you will be suprised.

I’m sort of on the side of whoever-does-the-cooking-gets-to-choose-the-meal, but in the interest of maintaining healthy relationships, it always helps to “make creativity your friend.” If the food isn’t that great, just serve it while you’re wearing a chef’s apron…and nothing else. Of course, that won’t work with kids in the house. HA!

I totally agree with you on the point that family support is very important in dieting. The same thing applies to cancer patients too. Sometimes they need to make major changes to their diet and it would help a great deal if their families are supportive. I had a friend who turned vegetarian with his wife after learning that his wife has cancer.

Family support really helps. My family is grown, but they like to go out and eat. This is either at expensive restaurants with fancy foods, or fast food. Neither is very good for weight loss.
My kids have been very supportive. They don’t push for me to go out to eat, etc. They are complimentary, but don’t throw my diet in my face (like is that on your diet?).
Bottom line, even if you live alone, family support is important.

If the family members support than than task can be very easy and if they dont than believe me this is very tough task … as you see everyday your favourite things are enjoying by other mouths and you just cant have it.

My elder sis always tease me whenever I go for diet at last I found a solution and I have to offer some gifts to her … yeah you can call it a bribe.
